Experimental_Jetset_JPRG

Remember the "John & Paul & Ringo & George" shirts by Experimental Jetset a few years back? Based on that simple pop culture abstraction, several other t-shirts sporting that idea have popped up over the years. ExperimentaI Jetset has a blog post that chronicled other "ampersand" shirts.

As a film nerd, I own the shirt, "Vito & Michael & Sonny & Fredo" from Bedlam Clothing (is that site still operational?) and I'm always keen to see what other shirts can be mine from this concept.

Warren Ellis, writer and self-proclaimed Internet Jesus has teamed up with Ariana Osborne to form the International Electrophonic Unit where each week a t-shirt goes on sale on (shudder) Cafepress. These t-shirts will have tweets or words of wisdom that Ellis came up with. This week's shirt?

It's not a band. It's not a movie. It's a new twist on an old concept. My only beef is that it's looks kind of boring. Given that you have the same word repeating, there's not much variety in the alignment.

In Absentia No More

I used to run a blog about t-shirts called So Many Shirts And Only One Body. Not only was it a mouthful, it didn't have that certain je ne sais quoi as this blog, Second Skin.

I was absent for a long time because, surprise, surprise, apparently I had a life and I wasn't very good at time management. Since graduating trumps blogging, out went the latter.

Now I'm back. Sort of. I mean, it won't be as prolific as before but it will still carry on that same piss-poor writing and quality, you've known and love from the last blog. Huzzah!

I'm still in the middle of transferring the archives, updating the links, pinning down an e-mail address you could actually send naked pictures mail to, so excuse our mess. I'm also testing the water with this current layout. It might stay or it might go, it's a toss-up.

So, while we're here I like to introduce you to Jodi Sagorin who runs Pirate Bath Clothing. Sagorin likes to point out the meaning behind the name every chance she gets. She's also whom you can blame for my return. She sent an e-mail to the old address and it appears she actually read the old blog. Her kind words caused my small heart to grow three sizes and I died.

But here I am, out of retirement, to beseech you to make little Sagorin's dreams to come true. Currently, she makes t-shirts out of her garage using fabric paint and sharpies but she strive for perfection so, she has a Kickstarter project to raise US$1,500 to hire child slaves for better screenprinting equipment.

I'm a sucker of small businesses and Sagorin's venture is as small as they come. You can make her dreams come true by donating to her Kickstarter project. A deadline approaches and it's the end of December so get to it.

If you're not feeling charitable, maybe your capitalistic side will be open to buying Sagorin's shirts.

Maybe with the money, Jodi can also take a proper bath like a normal person.

If you've never heard of Mike Birgilia (if you think reading his name is hard, try saying it), I understand. The guy's an underrated genius. He's like pre-Oswalt before he made it big with the indie crowds of comedy.

Then, I found out that Birbiglia sells t-shirts based on some of his stand-up material. At first, I thought it would be some crappy stencil iron-on to an equally crappy t-shirt that's made out of a potato sack and pubic hair but thanks to Mike's brother, the t-shirts are American Apparel.

Marblevore is based on Birbiglia's joke that he always thought hippos ate white marbles.

...

You know, that joke sounded a lot funnier when he tells it.

Most of the time, you'll see t-shirts that are geared toward men. You know the kind there they say, "I'm a Dude, so Do Me" or "I'm Sooo Not a Woman, So Why Are You Not Doing Me"?

One Night Stand Stand Outfitters caters to both genders, which is a rare thing to see. For the guys, you have t-shirts like FUPA and Whore Island but the I Fake It women's tee is the one that made me laugh and it hasn't even arrived yet.

Yes. That last line was a pun. I'm a writer. Wheee!

With all the brouhaha about FOX optioning OJ Simpson's book and the interview with him, then canceling the two for the reason of it being, "an ill-advised project" (duh), I thought, I showcase some O.J.-related shirts.

I was looking into Child's Play (donate, damn you!) and I came across Huzzah Goods. They sell gamer-oriented shirts like a cross-section of your old school Nintendo controller.

Each shirt you buy from them, 10% goes to Child's Play.

John Van Hamersveld designed many iconic pop art during the sixties and seventies, which if you do remember the time, you weren't really there.

Worn Free hosts many of the art Hamersveld created for music legends like Frank Zappa (Radio Clyde 261) and Debbie Harry (Camp Funtime)

There's also Hamersveld's Native American that started out as a humble poster, then turned into a gig poster for Jefferson Airplane and finally an iconic shirt we know and love.

Terratag, who has a fetish for mecha, also designed the logo for the Ghost in the Shell series antagonist "The Laughing Man."
